Oops
So I am entirely brilliant and forgot all of the details to access my blog. So we have a new one!
Anyways, I have one day remaining in Hickory before I head off to Chapel Hill and Richmond for my final week in the States. From Richmond, I'll be flying to JFK in New York from which I will fly with my group to Paris then to Rabat. At this point, I am not sure how often I will have access to the internet, but I will try to update at least once a week.
For those of you with whom I have not spoken, here is the cliff notes version of what I will be doing: The program in which I am enrolled is through the School for International Training and is focused on culture and society of Morocco. After a week-long orientation, I will be staying in a homestay in Rabat, the capital city. For the first two months, I will join 27 other US students for classes in Arabic, Moroccan culture, and field study techniques. Our classes are held in a Cross-cultural learning center in a 19th century Andalusian house in the old part of town. For the final month, we are 'cut loose' to finish up our independent study projects, which require a 20-40 page research paper to conclude. My proposed topic is comparative healing systems: specifically the interrelation of traditional healing and biomedicine in Moroccan society.
During the 3 months, we will be taking two large excursions (one to Meknes, Volubilis, Mouley Idriss, and Fes and a Southern Excursion to Azrou, Midelt, Errachidia, Rissani, Merzouga, Nkob, Ouarzazate, Marrakech and Essaouira) and weekends could allow for more.
As a final update, my trip to Lebanon after my time in Morocco will no longer happen. For now, the plan is to wander around Europe with Jess from December 17 - January 3 with my homebase located in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Thank you all for the love and support as I continue to get ready!
xoxo!
